Errors make no mistake electro

When this Glasgow band first got together four years ago, they wanted to sound ‘a bit like New Order’. Either they were being modest, or maybe they really didn’t realise how far-reaching their take on electro would end up being.

The title of this year’s debut LP, It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever, is probably the best summation of their genre-melting mix of electronica and math rock, where droning guitars wrap around laptop beats and glitches.

Messy labels aside, their music sounds clean and clever, and it was enough to impress Barry Burns of Mogwai when he went along to their first gig. The Scottish post-rock gods now affectionately call Errors their ‘golden children’, and earlier this year released the album on their own Rock Action label, with Mogwai guitarist John Cummings taking care of production. By way of mutual back-pat, Errors are bringing this current tour to a close with a series of what could quite possibly be sublime gigs supporting Mogwai.

After the brief but brilliant How Clean Is Your Acid House? EP in 2006, Errors’ album was proof they could make good on their promises.

Maybe it’s something to do with the influence of their ‘golden parents’, but Errors are starting to sound like four guys making special, important music without letting it go to their heads.
